My Testimony of God's Faithfulness in 2017
© Olatuja Oloyede
This year like no other year in my life has been a year of testimony to God's faithful.
I graduated in January with a good grade (there was no course I had less than C from 100l to 400)
I travelled to Lagos to work. The same week I got there I got a job which I was among the highest paid staff although not handsomely paid. I got another job after some months where I was highly favoured by my employer. Her kindness was inspired by a force which could only be God. I was not the highest ranked staff there but I was the highest paid. Is that not God...?
My uncle and aunty with whom I stayed throughout in Lagos were source of tremendous blessings. I was treated like a king with utmost care which sometimes make me wonder if I deserve such attention.
O... I met too many people this year. Some from the places I worked, some from our church in Festac, some from the Street, some in Benue State, some even foreigners on social media. I keep getting messages even till yesterday how much some persons I've bounded with missed me.
Some lives have been a source of spiritual motivation to me. I've been among God's children a very troublesome breed but these ones consciously or unconsciously have motivated me to stay close to my savour.
I've seen God faithfulness at work everywhere. I saw the supernatural workings of God over lives. These though I will not mention in details have confirmed to me more than ever before that my God answers prayers. Yesterday, I gave a friend a book to read only to come back meeting him on his knees pleading for grace and asking for forgiveness of sins for about 2 hours or more in tears. Our God is indeed faithful.
Journey mercies everywhere. Don't say what am I looking for...I visited several States within this country. I was on 11 hours journey this month.
I got posted to Benue for NYSC where I made several good friends from many tribes. Judith, Obakam, Daniel, Segun, Emmanuel, Aromath, the guys from Winner's family house and others.
What more can I say? I've enjoyed sound health, answered prayers and open heaven. God I'm grateful.
Creative Arena was born this year where I've met many like minds and heart blowing poets. Hall of Truth has brought me closer to certain comrades in the faith and Creative Arena has brought like minded people in line with my passion.
And all this while, I've been talking about myself. How about what God has done for my family and friends. The seas they've crossed, the yokes that were broken, the lands that were taken, and the grace that abound.
I hope we can find a thousand reason to thank the Almighty as we advance into the new year. Happy New Year in advance.

Silenced
The silenced are not only those
Who are dead, because, memories
Will speak on behalf of them.
The silenced are not only those
Who are scared of what life will
Turn-out to be, cause, life is out of them.
The silenced are not only those who
Refuse to speak the truth, cause,
They are the living dead.

“knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? l” 2 Samuel 2:26
If, O my reader! thou art merely a professor, and not a possessor of the faith that is in Christ Jesus, the following lines are a true sketch of thine end. You are a respectable attendant at a place of worship; you go because others go, not because your heart is right with God. This is your beginning. I will suppose that for the next twenty or thirty years you will be spared to go on as you do now, professing religion by an outward attendance upon the means of grace, but having no heart in the matter.
Tread softly, for I must show you the deathbed of such a one as yourself. Let us gaze upon him gently. A clammy sweat is on his brow, and he wakes up crying, “O God, it is hard to die. Did you send for my minister?” “Yes, he is coming” The minister comes “Sir, I fear that I am dying!” “Have you any hope?” “I cannot say that I have. I fear to stand before my God; oh! pray for me” The prayer is offered for him with sincere earnestness, and the way of salvation is for the ten-thousandth time put before him, but before he has grasped the rope, I see him sink. I may put my finger upon those cold eyelids, for they will never see anything here again. But where is the man, and where are the man’s true eyes? It is written, “In hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torment” Ah! why did he not lift up his eyes before? Because he was so accustomed to hear the gospel that his soul slept under it. Alas! if you should lift up your eyes there, how bitter will be your wailings.
Let the Saviour’s own words reveal the woe: “Father Abraham, send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame” There is a frightful meaning in those words. May you never have to spell it out by the red light of Jehovah’s wrath!

Keep the arrows in the quiver
And the bullets in the bag
I had danced to the booming of thundering guns
I had jumped to the melodies of tragedies
There is nothing good bout bursted brains
Bout broken bones and burnt barns
Keep the lions away from the seats of discretion
I had sat with powers around the negotiating table
Embraced the grammar of excited pessimists
Blinked with hope and happiness
At the promises in the wisdom of great orators
There is nothing true bout the lies told with conviction
Their selfishness is a curse
But where do we turn when humanity fails
When all the weapons in history are rendered impotent?
It shall turn to you for a testimony – Luke 21:13
Life is a steep climb, and it does the heart good to have somebody “call back” and cheerily beckon us on up the high hill. We are all climbers together, and we must help one another. This mountain climbing is serious business, but glorious. It takes strength and steady step to find the summits. The outlook widens with the altitude. If anyone among us has found anything worth while, we ought to “call back.”
If you have gone a little way ahead of me, call back—
’Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track;
And if, perchance, Faith’s light is dim, because the oil is low,
Your call will guide my lagging course as wearily I go.
Call back, and tell me that He went with you into the storm;
Call back, and say He kept you when the forest’s roots were torn;
That, when the heavens thunder and the earthquake shook the hill,
He bore you up and held you where the very air was still.
Oh, friend, call back, and tell me for I cannot see your face,
They say it glows with triumph, and your feet bound in the race;
But there are mists between us and my spirit eyes are dim,
And I cannot see the glory, though I long for word of Him.
But if you’ll say He heard you when your prayer was but a cry,
And if you’ll say He saw you through the night’s sin-darkened sky
If you have gone a little way ahead, oh, friend, call back—
’Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track.

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds” Proverbs 27:23 Every wise merchant will occasionally hold a stock-taking, when he will cast up his accounts, examine what he has on hand, and ascertain decisively whether his trade is prosperous or declining. Every man who is wise in the kingdom of heaven, will cry, “Search me, O God, and try me”; and he will frequently set apart special seasons for self-examination, to discover whether things are right between God and his soul. The God whom we worship is a great heart-searcher; and of old his servants knew him as “the Lord which searcheth the heart and trieth the reins of the children of men” Let me stir you up in his name to make diligent search and solemn trial of your state, lest you come short of the promised rest. That which every wise man does, that which God himself does with us all, I exhort you to do with yourself this evening. Let the oldest saint look well to the fundamentals of his piety, for grey heads may cover black hearts: and let not the young professor despise the word of warning, for the greenness of youth may be joined to the rottenness of hypocrisy. Every now and then a cedar falls into our midst. The enemy still continues to sow tares among the wheat. It is not my aim to introduce doubts and fears into your mind; nay, verily, but I shall hope the rather that the rough wind of self-examination may help to drive them away. It is not security, but carnal security, which we would kill; not confidence, but fleshly confidence, which we would overthrow; not peace, but false peace, which we would destroy. By the precious blood of Christ, which was not shed to make you a hypocrite, but that sincere souls might show forth his praise, I beseech you, search and look, lest at the last it be said of you, “Mene, Mene, Tekel: thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting”

MY MOTHER,MY MUSE .MY QUEEN
To the one who bore me to be
Even in sweat and pain did you breathe
My mother,my joy,my queen
How can I ever thank thee
Your beautiful breasts did I suck
in life
For there did get my power to be strong
Your flawless voice did I hear
When my cries did erupt and flood the earth
My guardian my rock
You shield me from all troubles at the door
You cover Me like a boat in a storm
Your love melts me and rushes like a water fall
My love, my muse
Your praise will I sing to when am due
For your worth is not comparable
To the most precious gold that man can own

I hear the sweet chords of the silent organ
Singing sharply and loudly as the rain walks by
I hear nature calling out to me
I hear the morning breeze running after me
The high notes does tread our hearts and sound aloud
Drip drip drip does water fill the ground
Thunder roars happily does scare us out
But still at peace our minds in the sky
Walk then in green fields shall we now
Into the far lands out to shout
Our soul our life's free from bounds
Does happily roar and tear the clouds
This same peace we seek
Shall bring giant strides of smiles to our cheeks
And as the long notes do press down and play to sound
So does life look beautifully to our face and smiles

NATURE I LOVE
The waters overflow the banks of life
Running across the soft seasides of our hearts
Our heartbeats do smile and think aloud
Life at the beauty lives on the sea
Walking by the seaside I breathe
Airs of joys and soothing peace
A big waste of sorrow and happiness did I
All throw out and let flow it away to the other side
Oh beautiful breeze
Thou dost take me through life to chill
For in you I see all dreams
Which I couldn't see when I do sleep
The waters of life are a delight
Who swims in and embraces it?
So was I lost in love
With the lovely waves that stole my life
